WHO WE ARE

Since 1899, the Giannino restaurant has been one of the best historical restaurants in Milan. Reflecting the vision of its founder, Giannino offers creative and international cuisine, based on Italian gastronomic tradition in general and Milanese in particular. The atmosphere is elegant and refined, with a refined and skilful use of materials. Luxurious details mixed and updated, walnut wood panelling, brushed brass, designer chandeliers and fabrics with geometric turn-of-the-century stylistic features make Giannino a classy, contemporary environment that is intimately linked to the city, of which it has become an integral part.

HISTORY

A small fiaschetteria. This was Giannino, before becoming a famous trattoria frequented by the international jet set. A fiaschetteria with a kitchen, whose fame started on the outskirts of the city and began to spread throughout Milan at the end of the 19th century. How Giannino's name began to cross the borders of the old Milanese suburbs is not known to us. What we do know, however, is that those who began to sit at Giannino's table were those whom the regular customers, mostly workers or employees of some nearby factory, called ``i sciuri``, for whom the innkeeper wanted to reserve a secluded and worthily laid table, with tablecloth and napkin.

THE MENU

The Gran Carte di Giannino is a work of art created with love by our Chef Salvatore Suzzi. The extensive menu traces the recipes of the Bel Paese revisited with class and imagination, satisfying even lovers of traditional Milanese dishes and those seeking vegan specialities. The restaurant serves fresh homemade pasta and all desserts are prepared express in the in-house pastry laboratory. The central dining room is dominated by the American Bar, where you can choose from a selection of Italian and international spirits and distillates. The wine list, created by sommelier Andrea Mussone, consists of 150 labels of Italian, French, Californian and South American wines.

CHEF MAURIZIO LAI

A young chef who has travelled extensively, Maurizio Lai has accumulated a lot of experience in his 18-year career to date, with key roles in restaurant start-ups, consultancy skills and plenty of time spent behind the kitchen cooker. A graduate of an Italian hotel school, Chef Maurizio began his career in 2002 with internships at various renowned restaurants and hotels in Italy, the UK and Malta before embarking on an exciting challenge as assistant chef at the Boscolo Etoile Academy in Sottomarina. During this exciting journey he has been part of the cooking and pastry course team, participating in national food fairs, events and partnerships with various food related companies.
